Hi, I have just joined this forum and it looks good, but where is everybody? This is the problem for me. People somehow need a motivation to become involved in discussion about eyesight. How do you motivate opticians to find out more, when they believe Bates method is all rubbish in the first place and they are pefectly happy with their own system of dealiing with eyesight?

I think the starting point must be in Universities where the research and training takes place, but I personally have no access to academia and can just imagine the response if I, a wacky alternative health practitioner, were to show up on their doorstep.

Bates method has something valuable to offer, but I am not clear what it is. It depends so much for its efficaciousness on the understanding of the teacher and the student, and its results do not lend themselves to statistical analysis. I have been teaching for over ten years in a very small way, making very slow progress with my business methods, teaching techniques, and personal progress, because in a business like this, you're really on your own despite the existence of a few others doing the same thing.

I have dialogues with people on YouTube, where my videos attract a modest amount of attention. That feels like a useful thing to do.

But if Bates method is to last and be recognised as a valuable body of knowledge, it needs to be tested and developed by those with the scientific background and the equipment: the opticians. And they are not motivated or interested (hard to resist being cynical here) as long as they can put glasses on the majority and make a good enough living that way.

It is interesting to hear from people from different professional perspectives on vision.

It strikes me as strange, however, for someone from one profession (Bates Vision Teacher) to expect colleagues from a different profession (Opticians) to carry out research on behalf of the first profession (Bates Vision Teachers)... These two professions have discrete professional protocols with different aims and objectives.
